Tom Cruise: Rant Two

2005-07-19 - 10:33 p.m.

Tom Cruise is a dickwad. And now I'm just annoyed with Kelly Preston. Oh, and that moron from JAG. What's her name? Is she even relevant?

I love Kelly Preston as an actress, and respect her for coming to her friend's defense, but what the hell is wrong with these people?

I've taken Zoloft for three years now. It literally saved my life. At first, it was a bit frightening, starting on a new medication -- but I was depressed, dammit! I mean, 'on-the-verge-of-suicide' depressed! Zoloft helped me. I rarely have panic attacks anymore, I am able to think more clearly, and I'm no longer despondent.

First Tommy went berzerk on Oprah, (hopping up and down on furniture and acting like he was on an LSD binge), then went on a mission to discredit Brooke Shields, and then went berzerk on Matt Lauer.

Maybe, just maybe -- it's time HE went on something. You know? To take the 'edge' off?

He told Matt Lauer that he was ignorant about the history of psychiatry (or psychology?) Okay. So he's ignorant. And just how many lives have been spared over the years by Psychiatric intervention? Think about it. Paranoid schizophrenics hear voices and listen to them. Sometimes the voices tell them to KILL, oh Tommy boy. You think some vitamins and exercise will make the voices stop? Do you think people just make this up for attention? NO! I've witnessed it. My sister's ex-girlfriend's brother heard voices. They told him to kill his roommate. He went to his room and stabbed the bed multiple times, thinking his roommate was home. (Luckily -- he was out)

YOU, Tom, are the one who is doing the disservice. Kelly Preston asked recently if it was any coincidence that there have been two new FDA warnings recently against antidepressants.

No. There is no coincidence. And I'll bet my bottom dollar that these have been brought to light AGAIN because of your little crusade. The fact of the matter is, is that suicidal tendencies have always been a potential side-effect of selective seratonin reuptake inhibitors (or SSRI's), such as Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa, and most notably, Prozac. From the beginning, fool! They are just reiterating old news, you moron!

And guess what? That's where psychiatrists are supposed to do their JOB. They are supposed to closely monitor patients for these kind of side-effects. It's called "Combination Therapy". A doctor would have to be a fool to prescribe this medication without the combo therapy. That's exactly why I was monitored very closely during my first six weeks of treatment. (This is most often the time that these side-effects usually manifest themselves)

Perhaps Brooke Shields was wrong not to discuss the risks involved in taking these drugs?

NOT A CHANCE. It was not her job. It was her personal account of her struggle with post-partum depression, and her journey to a safe recovery with the help of an SSRI. She was not being a spokesperson for the drug. She was sharing an intimate detail so as to assist other expectant and/or recently-blessed mothers who might have encountered such an issue.

Being on the verge of suicide cannot be helped. Nobody who is that suicidal is going to drive to their local pharmacist and purchase a bottle of Centrum, Geritol, or Flintstones Chewables to alleviate their symptoms. If you are that close to commiting suicide, you need REAL HELP. A caring ear. And yes, perhaps even medication.

Brooke Shields did not cause the disservice. Tom Cruise is the one who is doing that. And now his little minions are coming to his rescue.

My wish is that for one day, all three of the aforementioned individuals could experience mental illness in all of it's glory, and wake up the next day remembering every thought that they've had on the preceeding day. Only then, would they even slightly fathom what so many people have had to deal with for days, months, or sometimes, years.

My advice to you, Tom, Kelly, and What's-your-name? Stick with acting. Leave the important stuff to the people who are trying to make a REAL difference in this world.

By the way -- Tom Cruise movies have been known to cause malaise, dizziness, confusion, and labored breathing. I've decided to avoid them in the interest of good health.
